Which Is Faster - DSL Or Cable?

This can be a complicated question, but in most cases cable is faster than DSL. Cable offers more bandwidth to more people than DSL, and the coaxial cables used to transmit data are much larger. In general the bandwidth allocation of a cable service will not only offer faster downloads, but upload speeds as well. This is not always the case, and cable is asymmetrical as is most DSL services. This means that upload and download speeds will differ.

The closer to the phone company’s local hub, the faster a DSL connection will be. Conversely, as the distance increases the speed decreases. This means that for some lucky users, their DSL speeds may approach those of cable, but not for many. It is possible to be so far from a telco hub that a DSL connection cannot be made. It is important to research the local phone lines and locations if maximizing DSL speed is important.

Cable Internet service is a better solution for more people, but DSL is certainly a solid broadband alternative.
